Springtime With Fido

Fur

We all know what spring means: shedding season! Brush your canine buddy regularly. This will remove that dead fur and dander from his coat. You may want to take your pup outdoors for his beauty sessions on nice days. If Fido hasn’t had a good bath in a while, this is a great time to give him one.

Allergens

Spring is a peak time for allergens. Just like people, dogs can have allergic reactions to various substances. Pollen, leaves, plants, grass, and trees are often at the top of the list of things our canine buddies react to. If you know or suspect that your pooch has allergies, have your vet run some tests to pinpoint what he is reacting to. We also recommend monitoring pollen counts. Limit your pet’s outdoor time when they are high. Wiping your pup’s paws and belly with a damp cloth after his walks will also help.

Exercise

Did your pup spend the majority of winter curled up in his doggy bed? If so, your four-legged friend may be a little out of shape. Take time to build his endurance up slowly, so you don’t overexert him. Also, if you take your furry buddy to a park or down a new trail, be sure to bring plenty of water along.
